Day1Chandigarh - Shimla - Kufri - Narkanda ( 360 km )
● Direct pickup at sunrise in Chandigarh; start with steaming chai and Himachali sweets in the car.
● Pass through the Shivalik Hills with a brief stop at the Timber Trail to enjoy the scenes.
● On the way, breakfast at one of the dhabas in Shoghi that served desi ghee parathas and rhododendron chutney.
● Drive through Shimla and take a brief diversion to Kufri to get some panoramic photographs and also ride on a pony, should you want to.
● Photo stops at the viewpoint of Fagu valley and then ascends through cedar trees.
● Enjoy a mountain view accommodation with the fresh air of pines and traditional dinner at Narkanda.
Day2Narkanda - Sarahan - Sangla ( 170 km / 6-7 hrs)
● Wake up and have breakfast and then head down through apple country to Rampur.
● Take a walk across the 19 th century bridge at Jhakri and then proceed to have a guided tour of the ancient Bhimakali Temple at Sarahan.
● Have lunch at a dhaba in Jeori; do eat trout with red rice and Himachali ghee.
● Move on to Karcham Dam, where the Baspa River escapes the Sutlej- a good place to take photographs.
● Get into Sangla Valley through small exciting roads cut on the face of mountains with short breaks in between waterfalls.
● Arrive Sangla in the evening; camp by the side of the river with bonfire and folksongs.
Day3Sangla to Chitkul, Rakchham, and Kalpa
● Start the day with breakfast by the Baspa River; have apricot preserve on millet toast.
● Go to Chitkul (the final Indian village before the Tibetan border), stroll across wooden houses and fields of wheat.
● At Rakchham stop to take a stroll through some virgin alpine pastures where herdsmen feed their sheep.
● Stop at Batseri village to buy handmade woollens and dried apple snacks sold by local people.
● Drive up to Kalpa, making a market stop at Reckong Peo to fill up on the local nuts, herbs and teas.
● Suicide Point (actually the sunset there is near the village of Roghi); your driver assists you in taking that cliff photograph- safely!
● Register at a Kalpa guest house overlooking Kinner Kailash; stargaze following supper with the aid of telescopes.
Day4Kalpa – Free Day Exploration
● Begin with a peaceful morning trip to Hu-Bu-Lan-Kar Monastery where monks pray in a fluttering prayer flags surrounded environment.
● Enter typical Kinnauri houses in Roghi; your guide will tell you secrets of wood-stone construction.
● Picnic in an apricot orchard: fresh fruits, mat seating, hot tea served.
● Go to a nearby primary school where children adore exchanging songs- donation crayons provided by us.
● Eat local lunch in Kalpa; chha-gosht, siddu, or rajma madra and savour home-churned butter tea.
● Visit the Peo artisan market in the evening to get authentic turquoise, wool shawls and Himalayan herbs.
● And spend the night in your Kalpa retreat; relax with a seabuckthorn tea and warm blankets.
Day5Kalpa to Shimla / Chandigarh
● Early packing up, checking out of the hotel in the early morning with thermos tea and snacks; bags ready by 05:30 AM.
● Drive back along the Sutlej River; brief restroom and refreshment stop at Rampur or Narkanda.
● En route stop (optional) at Narkanda to get last glimpses of the hills or buy some local apples (seasonal).
● Have lunch by pass Shimla in a hygienic multi-cuisine restaurant with seats facing the valley.
● Continue to Chandigarh or whichever is your choice of drop location.
